My Story
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.” —Steve Jobs
A Gift of Love by Fran Willoughby
Mixed media on stretched canvas
From my first dance lesson as a small child in Yorkshire, the theatre was in my blood. At 18 I moved to London to go to stage school and I went on to perform professionally in musical theatre.
However, having seen much of the world from the back of a tour bus, I eventually took my last bow and settled first in Aldershot and now Farnham with my husband and our two sons. That’s when I discovered a new passion: making beautiful cakes and my creativity continued to grow. As a professional cake maker I specialised in teaching and making sugar flowers. This allowed me to flourish (pardon the pun) and indulge my love of colour and floral beauty.
Quite by accident, I made my way into the more corporate side of cake decorating working at Squires Kitchen for 10 years until I realised that I missed being creative. After taking a painting workshop with the fabulous Roz from TipperleyHill in October of 2021, a new passion began to emerge and I found a love for painting and in particular…. (no suprise) flowers. Having made floral displays from scratch out of sugar, I understood the composition of the flowers and found such happiness in creating them on the page.
And so my creative journey continues… I will try my hand at literally anything, be it balloon arches, wreath making, needlecraft, charcoal, watercolour or acrylic….. I just love anything creative and I’m lucky enough to be able to indulge that need to express myself through creativity and craft on a daily basis. I still teach dance to adults in Woking and Farnham for First Dance Studios which also brings me so much joy.
I hope you enjoy my website.
